| Most sailmakers will tell you that there are many different types of wave sail and they back this up by producing three full ranges. Great if you have the luxury of sailing in perfect and predictable conditions, but here in the UK, where conditions are many and varied, our focus has been to produce one super adjustable sail that will cope with whatever's thrown at it. The Rock has been forging quite a reputation over the past few seasons as more and more wave sailors come to appreciate its all-round wave ability. We view the whole wave set-up, rig/board/fin as a means of expression for the sailor; the less he or she is aware of it, the better. This means the rig must accelerate quickly, handle big variations in wind speed, maintain control in extreme conditions yet remain light in the hands. The Rock sets out to deliver in all departments and we certainly haven't been standing still since its launch a few years ago. Constant development of the seam shaping has enhanced its tuning options. Big variations in power can now be achieved by using the outhaul as well as the downhaul. This makes for easier adjustment on the water, or even during a competition wave heat. Naturally, the construction remains 'bullet proof' with Optic tm 2 laminates introduced for 2006, but at the same time the Rock feels remarkably light in the hands. It's what Ken Black calls his 'Forget about it' feel, allowing 100% concentration on the job in hand. |
